France Accelerates European AI Ambitions with NVIDIA Infrastructure Rollout
France is rapidly advancing its AI capabilities with significant investments in new AI factories and compute capacity, bolstered by NVIDIA technologies and a growing ecosystem of local startups and established companies.

France is solidifying its position as a key player in Europe’s artificial intelligence landscape, with recent developments signaling a significant acceleration in the nation’s AI ambitions. A year after outlining plans for AI advancement, the country is now seeing its infrastructure come online, featuring operational AI agents, active startup deployments, and the development of models tailored to local needs. This momentum is supported by substantial investment commitments and the strategic deployment of NVIDIA technologies.
AI Infrastructure Takes Shape
Central to France’s AI strategy is the expansion of its AI infrastructure. Mistral AI is constructing a new 44-megawatt data center in Bruyères-le-Châtel. This facility is already operational with 18,000 NVIDIA GB200 systems, forming the foundation for Mistral’s ambitious roadmap to achieve 200 megawatts of compute capacity across Europe by 2027. The NVIDIA Blackwell platform is a key component in these efforts, designed to enhance AI factory throughput within constrained power budgets through its high-performance, power-efficient silicon and software features.
Further strengthening this infrastructure, Mistral is collaborating with Bpifrance, MGX, and NVIDIA to expand Campus AI. This network of AI factories is anchored by a planned 1.4-gigawatt facility, poised to become one of Europe’s largest AI campuses.
Ecosystem Growth and Investment
The growth of AI infrastructure in France is complemented by significant investments from various players. Scaleway, a European public cloud provider, now offers NVIDIA Blackwell B300-SXM instances, providing on-demand access to accelerated computing for developers and enterprises. Bull and Foxconn are set to manufacture NVIDIA Vera Rubin NVL72 systems in Europe, with initial production and testing in the Czech Republic followed by assembly and validation at Bull’s factory in Angers, France. Additionally, a consortium of eight French companies has bid to host a European AI gigafactory, aiming to bolster continental AI infrastructure and adoption. Schneider Electric is partnering with NVIDIA to create blueprints for gigawatt-scale AI factories, facilitating faster deployment of AI infrastructure.
Tailored AI Models and Open Infrastructure
France’s AI ecosystem is actively developing models, datasets, and platforms that cater to specific local languages, cultural contexts, and European regulatory requirements. A key theme emerging from discussions at VivaTech was the increasing adoption of systems of models, where multiple models are used for specialized tasks to optimize accuracy, cost, and performance. The role of open models in fostering transparency, customization, and local relevance was highlighted by leaders from Gradium, H Company, LINAGORA, Pleias, and NVIDIA. Pierre-Carl Langlais, CTO of Pleias, emphasized the shift towards continuous model infrastructure, where models train subsequent models and manage data curation. This approach, combined with energy-efficient infrastructure, gives organizations the control needed to inspect, adapt, deploy, and audit AI systems that comply with European standards for trust and regulation. NVIDIA Nemotron is supporting this by providing open models, datasets, and playbooks to streamline AI workflows.
From Pilot to Production
The past year has seen a significant transition from AI pilot projects to full-scale production across various industries in France. Initiatives like the collaboration between AI Factory France (AI2F), NVIDIA Inception, and NVIDIA Connect programs are providing startups with access to national supercomputing resources, such as Jean Zay, enabling them to develop deployable applications.
In the healthcare sector, Sanofi is integrating AI agents across its value chain, from research and manufacturing to daily operations, to automate complex workflows. The company is also collaborating with startups Owkin and Biolevate on autonomous agents for drug discovery. Orange Business has adopted an internal-first approach with its Live Intelligence GenAI platform, which now has over 100,000 active users internally and is offered as a trusted agentic AI solution for businesses and public sector organizations within Europe, ensuring data remains regionally hosted. Stellantis is implementing AI-enabled digital twins across its global manufacturing operations to enhance efficiency and decision-making. Dassault Systèmes is integrating virtual twins with AI infrastructure and open models on its 3DEXPERIENCE platform, creating a secure foundation for industrial AI. TotalEnergies is enhancing its computing power for seismic imaging and AI-driven research with Pangea 5, a supercomputer developed with Dell Technologies and NVIDIA. L’Oréal is utilizing its CreAltech platform to combine generative AI with 3D digital twins for scaled content production while maintaining brand consistency and responsible AI practices.
