Notion to Shut Down Notion Mail, Shifting Focus to AI Agents

Notion announced it will discontinue its Notion Mail client across web, desktop, and iOS platforms on September 22, 2026. The company plans to phase out the traditional email client in favor of integrating email management more deeply with its AI agents. Data Migration and User Actions

While the core email content will remain accessible in Gmail due to bidirectional synchronization, users must take action to preserve specific data stored exclusively within Notion Mail. This includes drafts, scheduled emails, snippets (pre-written text blocks like standard replies), auto-label instructions, and email reminders. These items must be exported by September 21, 2026. After September 22, Notion will permanently delete any unsaved data. Attachments linked to snippets also require separate downloading.

Despite the shutdown of the Notion Mail client itself, core AI-driven functionalities will persist. The Gmail AI Connector, Mail-Blocks integrated into Notion pages, and AI agents capable of reading, drafting, and sending emails via Gmail or Outlook will continue to operate independently of the dedicated mail app. Existing synchronized email databases and views within Notion will also remain accessible, displaying historical data. However, new emails will not be synced after the shutdown date, rendering these views static.

Notion has set an earlier deadline of June 30, 2026, for organizations operating in regulated environments, such as those with HIPAA requirements in the U.S. or similar compliance mandates. These businesses are advised to remove Notion Mail from their workflows promptly to ensure compliance.
